CDA -Climate Smart Marketing Specialist, Consumer Awareness & Manufacturing

Work Unit:
The mission of the Markets Division is to help increase marketing and processing opportunities for Colorado’s food and agricultural industry. Specifically, the mission of the Division is to extend in every practicable way the distribution and sales of Colorado agricultural products throughout the world market and support agricultural development from farm to market.  The Division’s actions include:
  • Providing technical and food safety support to producers and distributors and assisting them in the economical and efficient distribution of their agricultural products.
  • Leading in the exhibition of Colorado food and agricultural products locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Encouraging and promoting agricultural business projects that add value to agricultural production and aid the economies of rural communities.
  • Promoting the advancement of new and beginning farmers and ranchers through various grant programs and other resources.
  • Expanding food access by strengthening the supply chain and reducing logistical barriers between farmers and consumers.
  • Gathering and disseminating production statistics, market and trade information concerning demand, supply, prevailing prices, and commercial movements.
Position:
This position is term-limited, and the term will end on December 31, 2026.
As the Consumer Awareness and Manufacturing Specialist for the Climate Smart Marketing Program, this position serves as a marketing resource to manufacturing companies interested in incorporating climate smart commodities into their business model. The position will accomplish this mission through research and analysis of marketing opportunities and the development of resource materials related to general climate smart marketing and promotion for manufacturing businesses.

This position will work closely with the STAR Marketing Specialist in the overall mission to connect manufacturing business with Colorado producers practicing regenerative agricultural practices. Through this effort, they will identify and work with food manufacturing companies interested in incorporating climate smart products from Colorado in their business model. Specifically, this position will assist companies in developing an overall strategy for marketing climate smart products from Colorado.  Assistance includes providing strategic research, marketing designs and implements; utilizing research and stakeholder input to inform development of strategy; key messaging, marketing, and communications plans; managing budgets, and developing timelines which will set metrics for evaluating success.  In addition, this position will work with the STAR Producer Market Coordinator, CDA team members, and industry partners to establish business connections with climate smart producers.

The position will require the organization of events, industry meetings, and seminars as well as development of resource materials.  Position will be required to travel statewide, nationally, and possibly internationally. Position will travel overnight or for extended travel, both by car and commercial airline. This position will require some lifting and other physical demands related to trade show display set up, shipping/movement of product samples, etc.

Duties:

Program Development and Strategic Planning
The position will work with the STAR Marketing Specialist to develop and implement the Climate Smart Marketing and Promotion program, including implementing a strategic plan that identifies program initiatives that advance the understanding of climate smart marketing opportunities for food and agricultural sectors.  This position will be responsible for the strategic advancements that focus on consumer awareness and support for manufacturing business.  Specific duties include:

  • Develop and successfully implement a programmatic strategic plan with key actions and measurable goals.
  • Implement specific initiatives that advance the general understanding of how to market and promote STAR branded products successfully.
  • Assess the needs for strategic research, as well as designs and implements, related to STAR marketing.
  • Utilize research, retail/supply chain partner, and stakeholder input to inform development of general strategy, key messaging, marketing and communications plans, budgets, and timelines.
  • Set metrics for evaluating success and draw on evaluation of activities to continually revise/improve.
