Dr. Devon G. Peña is Founder and President of The Acequia Institute and is Full Professor in Anthropology and Chicanx Studies at the University of Washington. Professor Peña lives in San Luis where he follows Indigenous agroecological farming practices and serves as Executive Project Manager for the San Luis Food Sovereignty Initiative. In this latter role, Dr. Peña leads the rescue and re-organization of the historic R&R Market which is the oldest business in the state (est. 1857). Renamed the San Luis Peoples Market, the establishment is being reorganized as a community food cooperative and local foods business incubator.
