Session: Understanding Our Collective Power, Roles and Responsibilities

Elizabeth Ryan leads a translational, clinical and public health program of research on whole grain and legume fiber rich foods such as rice bran, common beans and cowpeas. She collaborates with plant scientists, veterinarians and medical professionals for assessing health benefits and disease fighting properties across the lifespan. Ryan has identified roles for gut microbiome metabolism to support the immune system for improving human and animal health outcomes, such as prevention of diarrheal disease and reducing risk for some types of cancer. Ryan’s global health research program also includes developing innovative solutions to food systems that will enhance food security.
