Position Summary:
Two field assistants perform the core duties of running a farm, including sowing, planting, irrigating, weeding, packing, harvesting, and delivering. Field assistants also participate in key marketing activities, and each assistant serves as the manager of either the Farm Stand or Farmers Market Stand. This is a learning position for farmers entering their second or third year farming. Field assistants will also have the opportunity to assist and lead field demonstrations and teach skills to farmers-in-training, continuing to build on their own growing farming knowledge.
Job Description:
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Complete daily tasks, as assigned, related to the daily operations of farming
- Tasks may include setting up irrigation, running and trouble-shooting irrigation, sowing, planting, weeding, hoeing, harvesting, processing, packing, delivering
- Lead farmers market stand (Saturdays) or farm stand (Wednesdays)
- Assist or lead demonstrations for farmers-in-training
- Lead groups in field work, including volunteers, interns, and farmers-in-training
- Bring small projects to completion, as assigned
- Learn and operate small machinery
- Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
- Maintains knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508.
- Produces and remediates digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards.
