The program’s goals are to reduce food waste, provide fresh produce to communities experiencing food insecurity, and encourage local food systems, home gardening, and community building.Scope of work:Duties will include extensive driving of the FFC motorized trike throughout three Denver zip codes (80221, 80212, 80112). During this time the employee will be biking routes through the designated zip codes to pick up produce from home gardeners and bringing it back to the greenhouse or a designated donation drop-off.Employee will be responsible for creating and tracking their routes, and weighing and recording the amounts/types of produce retrieved in both internal and external tracking resources. In addition to Courier responsibilities stated above, the Fresh Food Connect Program Coordinator will be responsible for online and in person marketing of the Fresh Food Connect Program, social media posting, community outreach and engagement, regular communication with participating gardeners, and participating in monthly or bi-weekly remote meetings with the Fresh Food Connect operating community. Employee will be supervised by Groundwork Denver’s Greenhouse Manager.Time and work requirements:Position runs 17-19 weeks in July – October (exact dates TBD) and is 10 hours per week. The schedule is currently Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9am – 2pm. Both the start/end dates and the weekly schedule will be finalized when the position is filled. Requirements include completion of a bike mechanics class and road safety course (paid for by Groundwork Denver,) commitment to wearing all recommended protective gear, ability to work outside in all weather for up to six hours at a time, physical ability to ride an electric trike on city roads with up to 100 pounds of produce for up to 15 miles (electric trike has ‘assist components’ to help with pedaling while pulling extra weight).Employee will need to utilize their personal smartphone for accessing the Fresh Food Connect app and map, their personal phone or computer to access Fresh Food Connect meetings, and their personal vehicle in the case of inclement weather or donation delivery.
