Position: Market Farmer Internship (3 open positions)

Program/Department: Farmer Development & Support (FDS)

Location: Arvada, Colorado

Employment Status:  Part-time, Temporary, Non-exempt, 20-24 hours per week

Reports To: Farmer Development & Support Program Director

Compensation: $20.00 – $22.00 per hour

Position Start Date: May 26, 2025

Position End Date: Oct 20, 2025

Market Farmer Internship Position Summary

GoFarm is seeking motivated, adaptable, and passionate individuals to fill three GoFarm Market Farmer internship positions. Interns will learn sustainable farming practices, increase their knowledge of our local food system in Colorado, and play an integral role in helping beginning farmers in their first years of business. Primary interns responsibilities include working with Incubator Farmers and GoFarm staff on everything from seeding and prepping beds to harvesting and processing crops. This is an internship that is best suited for those with some farming or gardening experience, who are looking to explore a career in agriculture and/or gain hands-on experience in starting a market farming career. Seasonal staff receive free weekly produce as a benefit.

 

Responsibilities and Opportunities

  • Work with our Incubator Farmers to assist them with all aspects of their farm operations and assist GoFarm staff with farm upkeep
    • Prepare soil for planting and help to implement soil building practices
    • Maintain farm irrigation
    • Seed and plant crops
    • Manage weeds and pests
    • Harvest, wash, and pack farm produce
    • Mowing, weed whacking
    • Assist Incubator Farmers & GoFarm staff with additional tasks as needed throughout the season 
  • Attend orientation and training
  • Attend regular check-in meetings with FDS Program Director
  • Maintain good communication with all GoFarm staff & Incubator Farmers

 

Working Conditions

  • 20-24 hours every week
    • Several consecutive hours outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions
    • Several consecutive hours standing, bending and crouching to weed, plant, harvest, etc.
  • Occasionally working in adverse weather conditions including rain, snow, high wind, and in both the heat and cold
  • Regularly moving large boxes and crates of produce or moving soil amendments, up to 50lbs
  • Use of BCS walk-behind tractor and other farming equipment (training provided)
  • Some remote computer-based work may be required (Zoom meetings, responding to work emails, etc.)

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Some gardening or farming experience required
  • A flexible schedule – morning availability a must
  • A commitment to work the entire internship
  • Strong interest in sustainable agriculture, local food, food equity, and sustainable food systems
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and individually on tasks and projects
  • Flexible, willing to learn, comfortable taking initiative, and willing to ask questions when needed
  • Must have a valid Driver’s Licence, a reliable vehicle, and auto insurance
  • Willing and committed to learning about inequity within the food system and advancing food justice
  • Conversant in English, fluency not required
  • Must be 18 or older
