We hope that this research inspires new policy dialogue on the role that state policies can play in supporting positive rural development outcomes, local procurement decisions, community asset development, and producer and supply chain business outcomes. We will use the data and analysis compiled from the ongoing projects, combined with Extension resources, and the networks and knowledge of our Advisory Committee, to contribute to a dialogue among researchers, Extension personnel, and policy makers on how local and regional food systems can play a critical role in rural economic development.
